Continuing from our last post, today we’ll take a deeper dive into the specific roles of UX designers and UI designers! 🧠✨
■ What Does a UX Designer Do? 🔍
A UX designer’s main job is to conduct user research 📊 and design the overall structure and flow of a product. In other words, it’s not about simply making things look good.
It’s about understanding how users behave, what they’re thinking, and how to make the experience smoother based on those insights.
Specifically, they might:
- Conduct user interviews and surveys to uncover needs
- Create customer journey maps to visualize the user experience
- Perform information architecture (IA) to build clear, logical structures
- Develop prototypes to test and validate ideas
■ What About UI Designers? 🎨
So then, what does a UI designer do? UI designers take the flows and structures created by UX designers and bring them to life as actual interfaces 👀✨. For example:- Where should buttons be placed?
- What colors and fonts should be used?
- How can icons and micro-animations guide users intuitively?
■ A Typical UX–UI Workflow 🔄
Imagine this: A UX designer maps out a smooth purchasing flow for users, such as:- From the homepage to a product list
- Then to a product detail page
- Adding the item to the cart
- Proceeding to checkout
■ UX and UI Are Complementary 🤝
As you’ve probably realized by now, UX and UI are distinct disciplines, but they complement each other.- Without UX, UI designers wouldn’t know what kind of experience to design for.
- Without UI, even a well-thought-out UX wouldn’t be effectively communicated to the user.
